Your Gift Is Matched

In Sierra Leone and beyond, PIH is proving that safe motherhood is possible everywhere. Until June 30, a generous PIH Canada board member is matching every dollar you give up to $25,000.

Double Your Impact for Lifesaving Care

Sierra Leone’s most advanced maternal hospital is open. It’s already saving lives.

The Paul E. Farmer Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) is a landmark facility in Kono District — 120 beds, Sierra Leone’s first neonatal ICU, and surgical care available around the clock. Built with Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health, it’s staffed by locally trained nurses, midwives, and doctors delivering the kind of care that simply didn’t exist before.

This is what sustained investment looks like — and we’re just getting started. Your matched gift ensures that investment reached mothers wherever they need it most.

At a time when solidarity is under threat around the world, a matched gift is powerful way to show you value care over cuts. Give before June 30 and every dollar you contribute is doubled, up to $25,000.

In Sierra Leone, women face a 1 in 74 lifetime risk of dying in childbirth.

Birth should never be a gamble — in Sierra Leone or anywhere else. Your matched gift helps prove what is possible.

What Your Matched Gift Helps Fund

Every day at Koidu Government Hospital in Sierra Leone, we are making childbirth safer for mothers and their babies. The same is true in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, and beyond, where PIH community health workers and locally trained clinicians deliver patient-centred care that saves lives.

Sister Patricia holds Sia’s baby shortly after birth.

In this documentary, follow midwife Sister Patricia Efe Azikiwe as she accompanies Sia Fengai, a first-time mother navigating a high-risk pregnancy, from the maternal waiting home to the operating theater. This is what PIH’s model of accompaniment looks like, delivered at every step, when it matters most.
