Doing Hard Things With Friends Reading Club

A reading club by Partners In Health Canada.
For people who believe health is a human right and know the work of justice starts with paying attention.
At Partners In Health Canada, we believe no one should be denied care because of where they live or what they earn. Our mission is both medical and moral: to deliver care that treats the whole person, stand in solidarity with the poor, and serve as an antidote to despair.
This reading club is one way we live that mission.
We gather around stories: short essays, speeches, or reflections that challenge us to think deeper about global health, solidarity, and what care really means.
It’s a space for conversation, reflection, and doing the hard work of justice. Together.
How It Works
- One short reading per session shared in advance (an essay, speech, or story).
- 60–90 minutes of conversation lightly guided by a PIHC facilitator.
- No prep required beyond reading.
- Choose your format: join us in person (Toronto) or online (Zoom) on the date that works for you.
- Everyone is welcome: students, donors, health workers, and justice-curious folks.
You don’t need to be an expert. Just be curious, compassionate, and open.

How we show up
Before you register, we ask that you review our Safety & Code of Conduct.
This is a space for honest conversations. That means we commit to showing up with care, respect, and accountability. These shared agreements help make that possible.
