Planning on being in Montreal in early August? Osheaga Music and Arts Festival will be the place to support Partners In Health Canada, bask in the sun, and enjoy dozens of influential musical acts, thanks to our good friends at ALDO Fights AIDS.
Montreal-based ALDO Group has been a pioneer in AIDS activism since 1985, at a time when few were willing to take a stand. They’re still standing firm today, and PIH Canada is proud to be the beneficiary of ALDO Fight AIDS (AFA) #FriendsFight bracelet campaign, on colourful display at Osheaga from Aug. 1-3.
Bracelets will be available at multiple locations on the festival grounds for only $5, with all funds going to PIH programs supporting HIV and AIDS treatment and prevention. The bracelet symbolizes both friendship and solidarity and extends an invitation to each bearer to join together in the fight against AIDS.
Since 1981, more than 60 million people have contracted HIV and AIDS, and more than 35 million have died from HIV-related causes. An estimated 35 million people are now living with the disease-95 percent of them in developing countries. HIV hits hardest among the poor and disenfranchised. PIH adheres to four fundamental pillars when addressing HIV and AIDS in poor settings: providing treatment in the context of primary care, screening for and treating tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infections, and emphasizing women’s health.
To paraphrase a Haitian proverb, providing medicine alone is equivalent to asking someone to dry their hands in the dirt after washing them. In this spirit, in addition to treatment, PIH also provides housing, water, food, and psychosocial support to thousands of people living with HIV.
We’re thrilled and honoured to have ALDO Fights AIDS as our partner in this game-changing work.
