On May 17th, 2017, Partners In Health Canada and Hart House at the University of Toronto hosted a breakfast conversation with Dr. Agnes Binagwaho, co-founder and Vice Chancellor of Partners In Health’s University of Global Health Equity and the Minister of Health to Rwanda from 2011-2016.
Over breakfast, Dr. Agnes regaled a room of students, academics, and activists with stories and data about Rwanda’s incredible health gains, which she credits to the creation of an equitable health system. Designed with the most vulnerable people in mind, its success relies on innovation, community health workers, and a refusal to cow to the people in power who say it can’t be done.
Back at the Partners In Health Canada office, we had a chance to chat with Dr. Agnes about equity, accessibility, and the importance of a systematic, pro-poor agenda in health care delivery.
To learn more about Dr. Agnes and her incredible work, NPR’s recent piece Agnes Binagwaho Is A Doctor With ‘Sassitude’ is a great place to start.
Thank you so much to Hart House, Dr. Agnes and the team at University of Global Health Equity, U of T’s Faculty of Medicine, the Global Health Diplomacy Program, the Munk School of Global Affairs, and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health for this wonderful opportunity.
