Today, the Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development conducted a briefing on the current human rights situation in Haiti.
Partners In Health Canada’s National Director, Mark Brender, amplified the voices of our Haitian colleagues to advocate for the country’s urgent needs for fuel, medical supplies, solar capacity, and additional supplies and staff for treatment of the recent outbreak of cholera. Referencing the late Partners In Health co-founder Dr. Paul Farmer’s call for pragmatic solidarity and international assistance policies that will allow Haiti to build stronger health systems, the message was clear: Canada can help in all of these areas right now.
