The Canadian government is undertaking a review of its international assistance programs and has invited feedback from individuals and Canadian development organizations. Read PIH Canada’s submission to the review is below. 

Since 2012, Butaro Hospital in Rwanda has treated thousands of cancer patients but lacks a radiation therapy machine. Patients were referred to Uganda, but since its machine broke, they now go to Nairobi, Kenya. 

A pregnant woman in rural Liberia might find a clinic with no plumbing or electricity, and a lack of basic supplies, with emergency help hours away. PIH aims to transform this by improving facilities and training staff, with a goal of zero maternal deaths. 

After Ebola, PIH renovated “New Pleebo” health center in Liberia, serving 50,000 people and delivering 50 babies in the first month. 

Tula Foundation, based in BC, supports environmental initiatives and health systems in Guatemala, inspired by Partners In Health’s model of equitable healthcare.
