Take action now.

No one is safe until everyone is safe.

Help encourage the Canadian government to invest at least 1% of our national COVID-19 response to counter the pandemic globally and ensure that care and stronger health systems are available for everyone.

Support the most vulnerable in impoverished settings.

We applaud the federal government for recent commitments to the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX) Facility, ACT-Accelerator and other partners. This is a good start, but in the face of this global emergency and the danger it poses around the world, we must mobilize to do even more. Our response must be a springboard to invest in strengthening local health systems over the long term, building back better to provide health care for all.

Help avoid dire consequences.

The global pandemic has exposed and exacerbated cracks in health care systems around the world, leaving the most marginalized and impoverished communities at an even greater risk. Maternal and child mortality is rising. Routine immunizations are being lost, setting back child health across the globe.

Investments today in strengthening health systems will put a quicker stop to COVID-19 while building capacity for countries to better respond to epidemics of the future.

Take a stand against injustice.

Partners In Health’s work has shown that strong and effective health systems and social support for the most vulnerable are the best safety nets for our collective health and security.

From our experience with cholera, Ebola, HIV and tuberculosis, we know that COVID-19 disproportionately affects the most vulnerable—the very patients that Partners In Health serves. We also know that facility and community-based solutions can minimize the death toll of epidemics and help to contain the spread of disease.

Sign the pledge today.

By signing the pledge below, your name will be added to our letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; Minister of International Development, Karina Gould; and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, reinforcing the call to commit at least 1% of Canada’s COVID-19 response to supporting global efforts to combat the pandemic, and investing long-term in strengthening health systems.

Please see the full petition here. This letter will be sent with all signatories at the end of November. Should there be any significant changes in Canada’s commitments to the global COVID-19 response before then, the letter will be updated accordingly.
